Celebrating Women's Day: a list of every single Josei anime ever made (including ones not listed on MAL)

First thing's first, what is a "josei" anime?Simply said, there are about 5 or so major demographics when it comes to publishing and organizing a a manga magazine catered to a specific audience: kodomomuke, shounen, shoujo, seinen, and josei. Each of these demographics refer to a gender and/or age group, with kodomomuke meaning "for young children", shounen meaning "for boys", shoujo meaning "for girls", seinen meaning "for men" and josei meaning "for women" (mostly between the ages of 18 and 40). While many magazines make it obvious which demographic they are aimed at (i.e. Shounen Jump, Shojo Beat, etc), the only way to tell where some find themselves is based on the contents of their advertisements, who's publishing them, and other more abstract notifiers such as art style, theme, presentation, etc.Regarding the transition to TV, this becomes even more nebulous, as most anime runs on blocks in major channels that aren't usually gender-specific; the only way to tell in this case is to look at the source material and, when there isn't any, to look at the different aspects of the production (such as interviews, the types of commercials being run alongside it, where adaptations are published, etc) to maybe get a clue.As such, this list will be seperated into works that are based on josei publications and anime-original works that can be understood as josei through intention or any of the other factors listed above. For the purposes of this list, Comic Zero Sum, Comic Yuri Hime (pre-merger), and Monthly Erotics F. (Ones not listed on MyAnimeList as Josei will have a * next to them, including those mislabeled as "Shoujo" or any other demographic.)Based on pre-existing source:07-Ghost *Aoi Hana *Amatsuki *Bikachou Shinshi Kaikoroku (Segment) *ChihayafuruChihayafuru 2Chihayafuru 2: Waga Mi Yo ni Furu Nagame Seshi Ma niChoujuu Densetsu Gestalt *Chouyaku Hyakuninisshu: Uta Koi.Chouyaku Hyakuninisshu: Uta Koi. - Sake to Kikoushi ~ Murasaki Kishikibu to KintouGenji Monogatari (1987) *Genji Monogatari Sennenki (2009)GokusenHachimitsu to CloverHachimitsu to Clover SpecialsHachimitsu to Clover IIHatenko Yugi *Kantoku Fuyuki Todoki *Karneval (TV) *Karneval *Karneval Specials *Kasei YakyokuKiko-chan Smile *KuragehimeKuragehime: Eiyuu Retsuden☆Kuragehime: Soreike! There may be some missing since I compiled this by myself (if there are, post below or send a PM to have the list updated), but for the most part these are all the Josei anime out there. While not nearly as massive in number as, say, shounens are, the demographic has quite a lot to offer beyond iyashikei or romance dramas that it's more closely associated with.Consider this somewhat of a precursor to a greater project I have in store, which'll study the different aspects of anime categorization in essay form, with the first part coming up in about a week or so regarding this very same subject (what constitutes a demographic, what is josei and what it isn't). That essay will also explain why the likes of Nana and Sazae-san are absent, among other things. :)Hopefully this list'll be useful for someone!! Happy International Women's Day!! <3 http://ift.tt/1Ry0iWy
