What Anime did you enjoy despite the fact that you didn't care or get a connection with the characters?

Yep, like the title says..Similarly, What Anime did you end up really disappointed because of the fact that you didn't care or get a connection with the characters even though you appreciated and recommend it for other traits of it?I'm sure none would not be an answer because there are definitely some anime out there where plot or themes dominate over characters.. or maybe you enjoyed it because it was a all-brains-shut comedy. What are some Anime which can be considered as milestones?

Can someone recommend me some anime which are must-watch (Even if it is abysmally bad), something in line of NGE, Bebop, GitS (Movie) and uh Utena (Planning to watch it next) which changed the face of Anime?Edit: Thanks for the recommendations. I expected something like being a pioneer, thus making it must watch..
