Hey guys, first time actually posting on this subreddit, so I hope this post isn't against any rules. I used to solve Rubik's Cubes in competitions, so I wanted to weigh in on the depictions that were in the second episode of Haruchika.First off, I just want to point out that the position that Haruta solves when demonstrating his Rubik's Cube skills is actually correct. This is the position that he solves in the episode. Here's the scene in the anime for comparison. It's actually a legitimate position that could occur if you were solving with the most common Rubik's Cube solution (called CFOP). So kudos to the animation staff for getting that right! If you're curious, the solution that Haruta uses is R U2 R' U' R U R' U' R U' R', which is the correct algorithm. However, I was a bit disappointed when the animation got lazy in the very next scene. If you look closely at the cube while Haruta is solving it, you can see that the cube he's using follows the Western color scheme, which has white opposite of yellow, green opposite of blue, and orange opposite of red. This is further evidenced by the fact that I was able to recreate the exact position on a Western color scheme. However, when he puts the cube down on the table in this scene, you can see that yellow is in front and white is on top, which can't happen in the Western scheme because the two sides are supposed to be opposite of each other. You can probably chalk it up to animators being too lazy to color in the top side, but it was disappointing to see. http://ift.tt/1Ov9xpv
