Fallout 4 PSA: Calm yo' mammal glands over leaked video footage and screens.

I've seen people get all hot and buttered over some video footage that has been leaked, and some more screenshots. Whether you think F4 is God Todd's latest and finest creation or have the hatez for it, think about how silly and petty this bickering will make you look in about a week's time. This does not just apply to leaked F4 footage, but to all leaked game material.a 5 or even 20 minute video is not necessarily representative of gameplay for a 100+ hour game, for better or worse. Even purely on a quantitavite comparison. If you take into account how different everybody's play style is, this is even more true. Some people play Fallout 3, NV and probably F4 more like a shooter than anything else. Some take their time and explore, sneak, listen to dialog, do crazy stuff... Don't judge the potential of the game off of 20 minutes of gameplay footage. As with anything, F4 will be more than the sum of its parts. This goes for every. single. element. of the game. Storytelling, combat, and yes, graphics and audio as well. GTA5 does not have the same quality of facial animations as LA Noire, but it's arguably the better game overall, because it has a well-rounded package of audiovisuals tailored after gameworld and gameplay needs. Likewise, a game with the highest graphical fidelity is not necessarily more immersive than a text adventure. Because immersion in RPGs is to no small part the job of the storyteling.Specifically on visual fidelity: What can you really see in a highly compressed video that tells you anything about how all the elements will work together in the end? Which elements can you clearly judge from such footage? Texture Quality? Nope. Shader Quality? Nope. Polycount? Hardly. Animations? Yeah, well, only if they nailed the basic movements. Good luck on identifying all the facial stuff and any little details. Shadows? Well, yeah, if they are missing. But any gradients, soft/multipoint shadows etc.? What about steam, fog moving lightly? I am not confident that you could make 'dem details out on grainy 240p footage. No one knows what platform / hardware settings combo this footage comes from. Is it PC? Is it XBone? Ultra Settings? Low Settings? FOV slider on minimum? Shadows disabled? Texture quality setting? Shaders on or off? (my guess is, the current footage is from a console version.)Lastly: you simply don't know what the recording user chose to show and what he decided to leave out. By the nature of how the video came into being, it is impossible for anyone else to consider it a representation of the game that is not potentially skewed to support (either unwittingly or on purpose) a certain view on the game. In fact, it comes with the same caveats as footage that publishers / developers release of their game. This footage might be heavily biased.OK, one more: playing yourself is not the same as watching somebody else play. This goes shitouple for RPGs. Do you remember that one time where you picked up a game after watching your favorite 'Tuber play it, and when you finally played it yourself, it wasn't half as nice as watching somebody else play it?OK, the very last, I promise: Don't fall into the expectations trap! A game as vast as a F4 can be anything and everything, and it might be the small changes to F3 that might ruin it for you. A nagging UI element, an absurd player animation, a story element that kills your suspension of disbelief. I realize 60 bucks is quite the investment, but no game can be what you imagine it like, no matter how much you want to. There is always potential, but if you turn your hopes into immovable yardsticks the game has to overcome, both you and the game are bound to lose. And if you then go ahead and use a shitty nonsense crap footage video to confirm or disspell your expectations, when in a week you will have a more solid opinion grounded in your OWN experiences with the actual thing, you will look at your flamewar with that other guy or another and feel a bit silly. It's pretty silly to be a backseat gamer and backseat game developer in the first place.TL;DR: Common sense, peeps! Just one more week of patience and cooler heads and then you can go bonkers about the game in either direction as much as you want. It's not worth losing your shit over 240p crappy videos or screenshots. That's not what a game like this is about, and is even misrepresenting the things it's not about in the first place. So, it's all for nothing, really. One more week and then commence the head bashing. KKTHXBYE.EDIT: Yes, mammary glands. I salute /u/the_unknown_one
