For those that don't know, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (FMA:B) is currently the top rated anime on MAL and most other sites.It's also been the highest rated for quite a while as far as I know. I don't remember there being a consistent #1 before that. I believe it used to juggle with Disappearance, Code Geass R2, LotGH, etc.There's also a comparatively huge gap between the #1 and #2 anime ranked on MAL (FMA:B: 9.25 vs Steins;Gate: 9.18) compared to the rest (Steins;Gate: 9.18, Gintama 9.16, HxH 9.15, etc.) for some reason so it will take a lot of effort to compete.There are a lot of great things coming out in 2016 such as sequels to Steins;Gate, SnK, Kizumonogatari, etc. and new materials such as Boku no Hero Academia. However, I don't think people will rate them as high as where FMA:B is right now unless either the source materials or the studios that adapt them do something ridiculously good.Do you guys think there will be any anime that will surpass FMA:B in ratings? Do you think there are any source materials that could potentially topple it? (Berserk, Muv-Luv trilogy, etc.) What kind of anime do people have to make to do so?Disclaimer: I am in no way saying ratings 100% dictate the best anime as everything is subjective.
