If you’ve seen me commenting in this sub before, there’s a good chance I was recommending Non Non Biyori. Since I recommend it so much, I figured I’d write a [WT!] about to really get across why I love this show so much. You might like it if you like: Barakamon, Flying Witch (currently airing), and Usagi DropWhere can you watch it? Both seasons are on CrunchyrollWhat is it?Non Non Biyori is a countryside SoL/comedy following the daily lives of four girls ranging from first grade to eighth grade. It’s a simple, episodic, show where the main cast does different activities in their small town every episode, interacting with each other and the few other people in their town. The three main focuses of the show are the environment, the characters, and the comedy. The EnvironmentIt’s very easy to get immersed in the atmosphere of Non Non Biyori. It’s so soothing and peaceful. It does a fantastic job of making you feel like you’re in the countryside, even if you’ve never lived in one or been to one before. The music does a great job of complimenting the soothing nature. The tracks are slow and calming. Listen to this track. If that doesn’t get you in a good mood, I don’t know what will. The CharactersThe characters are the strongest aspect of the show in my opinion. All the characters seem like real people, who interact with each other in very relatable ways. Their personalities are so diverse.Hotaru- Hotaru is a city girl who isn’t used to her environment. She becomes friends with the locals who teach her the ways of living in the country.Komari- Komari is the eighth grader who wants to seem mature since she’s the oldest of the group (besides her brother), despite her true childish nature often showing. She often gets made fun of for being the shortest in the group (besides Renge who is a first grader).Natsumi- Natsumi is a joker, tom-boy, who is often causing trouble for others because of the pranks and jokes she pulls on them.Renge- Renge is the purest child character I’ve ever seen in anime. Most child characters I see in anime are way too mature for their actual age. But Renge really acts like a first grader. It’s easy to reach into the child at heart and relate with Renge.Notable RelationshipsHotaru and Komari- They have such a pure friendship. You can tell they’re always trying to impress one another because of this. Their friendship also often hints that they may want a relationship with each other.Renge and Candy Store- Candy Store is a character I didn’t mention because she is a side character, but she is my third favorite character in the show. Candy Store has such a caring and motherly relationship with Renge. How much she cares and loves Renge almost brings tears to my eyes at times because of how well it’s done.Renge and Natsumi- This is a relationship I find very appealing, but I’ve never seen it mentioned. They have a relationship that’s similar to that of a child and her much older sister. Natsumi loves playing with Renge and immersing in her child-like nature.Natsumi and Komari- These are two sisters who have one of the most close in age sibling relationships I’ve ever seen. If you have siblings close to your age you’ll be able to find bits of your relationship in theirs. The ComedyNon Non Biyori has very charming, often slapstick comedy. I found myself in tears from laughter many times while watching this series. They make simple things so funny through their genius delivery. Many times I find myself laughing because of how relatable the situation they’re in is.TL;DRNon Non Biyori is a countryside SoL/comedy that’s very immersive with very well developed and relatable characters. It’s a great show to help make your bad day turn into an enjoyable one. What I mention here is just a small snippet of how beautiful Non Non Biyori really is. It’s hard to really understand the charm of the show without watching it. So I ask, if you like SoL shows, please give this a shot, I find it hard to believe people can not enjoy this show. http://ift.tt/1WUwiud
