Anyone interested in a week of horror movies/OVAs leading up to Halloween? (proposal details inside)

Preface / Reasoning:so every year around this time, I like to get together with some friends to marathon shitty b-movies or try and one-up eachother with our most unsettling horror films of the year (all in good spirits of course (get it (spirits are like ghosts in that they are dead and also scary))). this year, I thought I'd extend this jovial celebration of terrible things to you guys and see if we can't have fun with this.though this may seem a bit sudden to spring on you guys, given that we've got like 12 days to do this, I think there's no better time to do this, mostly because:have you ever tried watching a horror movie every day for a month? it loses its charm rather quickly, especially since early October isn't necessarily the most festive time of the year.it is in my experience, that most people on /r/anime are hesitant in watching horror anime under most circumstances, so a condensed community effort might help break some people into a genre they're normally uncomfortable with, without dragging it out too long.this is usually around the time where you'd be bombarded with Spooky Shit when walking around your neighborhood (at least in the US) or traversing the internet anyway, it's basically unavoidable, so why not have join in on the madness?this year, Halloween is on a Sunday. this means kids, candy, decorations, the whole shebang. instead of being barricaded in your home while everyone else enjoys themselves, you shitty adult, why not spend time watching cartoons get murdered with other shitty adults on the internet?Timing / Preemptive Schedule:presumably, this event would begin on October 25th, and end on the night of October 31st, which means a film or OVA a night for a week, with some OVAs being spread out across multiple nights. (I totally came up with this only a few nights ago hehe, so trying to cram every episode of Boogiepop Phantom or Shiki into this short amount of time sounds like a mess. sorry. ;p)Deciding the Programme:now the films and OVAs we would watch are totally up in the air at the moment, though I've managed to scrounge up some candidates I think you guys might enjoy. if this gets approved (and gathers enough traction), we can pull out suggestions from the discussion in this thread to develop a schedule that'll appeal to the most amount of people, so this list isn't set in stone!!some things we can watch (tentative to change/choice):Corpse Party: Tortured Souls (OVA): gorey nonsense that splashes the screen with more viscera than you can make sense out of. the core mystery is also pretty engaging and filled with fun twists and turns. (2 episodes a night for two nights, or 4 episodes in one night, whatever you guys prefer)Blood: The Last Vampire (Movie): grimdark urban fantasy with a lot of style and excellent animation. precursor to the impressive Blood+ and the highly controversial Blood-C. (one night)Devilman (OVA): based off the seminal horror manga by Go Nagai, founder of basically every anime trope ever. absolutely bizarre and way over the top, just a bit tamer than Violence Jack, which may very well be an option too. (2 episodes in one night, or 1 episode per night)Wicked City (Movie): actually insane feature by Madhouse that basically defines 80's horror into a totally bizarre experience. (one night)Pet Shop of Horrors (OVA): more tranquil than the other titles on this list, but perhaps the most tactful and eerie. based off one of the most critically acclaimed Josei manga of all time. (2 episodes a night for two nights, or 4 episodes in one night)Ninja Scroll (Movie): a classic and maybe the most watched horror film in the medium, with some crazy action scenes, a hysterical dub, and some things that need to be seen to be believed. (one night)Le Portrait de Petite Cossette (OVA): cerebral horror romance straight from the mind of Madoka/Monogatari director Akiyuki Shinbo. very artsy, very difficult to watch/grasp, but all and all, very unique; perhaps my favorite entry on this list. (treating it like a film and watching 3 episodes in one night might be the best way about this, though one a night or two and then one might work as well)Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust (Movie): this can be watched by itself or in cohesion with its prequel, though it functions very well as a stand alone film. has a phenomenal aesthetic, some excellent fight scenes, and a great overall story. (one night, or one film a night if there's interest in watching both of them)Apocalypse Zero (OVA): nasty, astonishingly stupid, and just probably the worst experience you'll ever have. lots of fun at parties though!! (two in one night, this is necessary to be done this way)Yami Shibai (TV short): a collection of short horror stories that vary in quality and attempt to capitalize on all sorts of fears. basically a smorgashborg of creepypastas. (all 13 episodes in one night, because of the format this will probably take you a less than an hour)Other possibilities: Youma, Asura, Angel's Egg, Genocyber, Bio Hunter, Doomed Megalopolis, Berserk film trilogy, Mnemosyne, Kakurenbo, Perfect Blue (don't want to step on the toes of the annual Kon rewatch, tho), MIDORI: Shoujo Tsubaki, etc.OR we can say "fuck it" and turn this into a week-long Hellsing Ultimate rewatch.Final Thoughts:so there's the proposal. as you can see, I've listed enough things to probably last us a while, so it all comes down to what you all want to do, what you all want to watch, or whether or not you all want to do this at all. I can do a follow up in a few days with a poll to decide our programme, and will make sure to set reminders so this doesn't just happen out of the blue.hope we can have a good time with this!! :) http://ift.tt/1NQqfE0
