(Note that all of the experience I have with Re:Zero are the 10 anime episodes that have aired so far so I don't know anything from the light novels)Get your tin foil hats on weebs cause it's time to reveal the truth Re:Zero has been hiding from us all this time, elitists and casuals alike: Emilia is actually Satella the Jealous Witch. Now let's be clear, Emilia (I'll refer to her by her false name for now to accommodate any troglodytes that haven't seen the truth yet) has been a suspicious character who has only grown more so as the show has progressed. You might ask "But she's so nice and even tempered, why would you say that vfactor?" Well it's simple really xXxNaRuToRoKs69xXx, in fact you were even able to almost grasp the truth in your question itself, an accomplishment given the 3 shuriken you have stored in your asshole for emergency use.The fact of the matter is that the problem with Emilia is that she is too perfect. In a story so far filled with characters that aren't particularly one-dimensional Emilia, the supposed main heroine, stands out as being incredibly flat. She's sweet and beautiful and that's it.... OR IS IT????Let's look at what has happened so far in terms of what it means for Emilia. A teenager from another world was summoned to hers, he then runs into her and she makes a big enough impression on him that when they just happen to run into a situation in which they both get killed he vows to keep putting himself in harms and experiencing great pain to save her and so she ends up surviving the situation. Just let that sink in for a second. Even the most rabid Code Geass fan wouldn't be able to dismiss all that as mere happenstance. It's highly suggested by this point that Subaru has gotten his death defying power from the jealous witch and so right off the bat we get a connection between the witch and Emilia. Now looking back upon episode 1 some things she talked about become questionable. Her justice system, while cute at first glance now reveals that maybe Emilia has no experience with being good. That fact that she tries to rationalize "good" actions under a you-scratch-my-back-I-scratch-yours shows that the concept of being charitable or nice for no specific reason is alien to her. Now perhaps if the trail stopped here I, in all my intellectual glory, would have been able to dismiss this as merely speculation bait by the author but the oddities don't end with the first arc...Emilia's role in the 2nd arc is limited so we're gonna fast forward to episode 8 where Subaru is talking to Beatrice and she reveals that the jealous witch is said to be a half-elf with silver hair. Even a vegetable would be able to make the connection to Emilia, which is where our MC's thoughts immediately go to but what happens next is strange to say the least. Subaru believes that she gave her name as Satella because because she wants to be left alone in the election. Oh well that makes sense now let's just calm move o-NOW WAIT JUST A SECOND. Subaru is obviously heads-over-heels in love with her so in a way his roundabout logic makes sense but to anyone else, even this idiot, it should raise some red flags. First of all if she really didn't want to participate in the election I'm sure there are any number of ways she could have withdrawn or made clear she has no intent on vying for the throne. And then of course you have to wonder how many half-elfs with silver hair there could possibly be in their world. People can't even tell by her magic that it's her because she doesn't use her own magic. An small section of an episode in the 2nd arc focuses on Subaru learning about and using magic but it's actually a distraction to slip in information about Emilia. It turns out that the magic she uses is absorbed from the environment around her and not actually her own which would explain why she isn't outed as the witch whenever she uses magic. Satella being a silver haired half elf is so obviously a red herring that it's actually a double red herring designed to take away suspicion from Emilia by bring it up and then quashing it in the same scene. So now going back the beginning most of what Emilia has done makes sense. She brings Subaru from his world as no one from hers would ever be her ally, she charms him so he falls for her and now she essentially has a pet who will die over and over again for her sake. She gives her true name Satella in the first loop precisely because it's the first loop and thus in a way the only "genuine" interaction they ever have. It's possible that she even hired elsa to create a conflict so as to prepare Subaru for what is to come in his first loop and try and kill Felt who seems to be a potential candidate for the crown (likely she's a bastard of the king or something).Add in the bits and pieces we've learned over the course of the series and everything starts to come together. The royal family that has a contract with the dragon "abruptly" died before Subaru came. Emilia and Puck where up all night in episode 8 using magic for something, when Subaru asks about it they deflect with a joke. FFS Emilia's name means "rival" of which "jealousy" (from the epithet "the jealous witch") is generally a main characteristic.Emilia might be acting or it's possible she erased her memories so as to not attract attention to herself like Death Note but either way it's pretty clear that she is either Satella herself, an alternate personality or very closely related in some other way.Edit: Note that while I think she's the witch I don't think she's evil (in the past sure, but not right now). Don't think it's possible to fake being that good natured http://ift.tt/1PC91Ms
