What type/genre of anime most consistently meets or surpasses your expectations?

The obvious answer to this, of course, is Mahou Shoujo. It's such a criminally under-looked genre, especially in the west, and you'll find gems just from randomly poking round at it with a stick because so much of it remains unknown to modern viewers. What's most surprising about it is that, given the target audience tends to be young girls for the most part, the writing and characterization is frequently so well crafted and thoughtful, not just for the subject matter, but compared to anime in general. This is not even to speak of the "Kagaku Shoujo" sub-genre, including the likes of 'ESPer Mami' and 'My Mother is a 4th Grader', where the scenario is more sci-fi based. Those shows are pretty much never talked about, despite being extremely watchable. http://ift.tt/1sh7p0y
