[WT!] Flag - War journalism as seen through a camera lens

I first saw this a good while ago, and it remains one of my favorites. It's one of those shows that nobody ever seems to mention, despite its high quality. What is it? Flag (sometimes stylized as FLAG) takes place in a fictional country somewhere near Nepal, currently undergoing civil war. The UN has stepped in, and arguably isn't making the situation any better. Naturally, war journalists flock to the scene to get the latest scoop on the war. Our protagonist is one of those journalists. We don't see it through her eyes, though. We see it through her camera- and I mean that literally. Every shot in the show is from a camera of some sort, be it Saeko's SLR, another journalist's video camera, or a camera mounted on a gunship. It's an odd choice, but it works better than you might think.Oh, and there's a mech. And following in the tradition of many great mecha shows, this one's a prototype. However, that doesn't mean it's all-powerful. Things break, and when they do the fixes aren't easy or quick. (Also, it's called the HAVWC. The name sounds a little forced, but I like it anyway.)Why should you watch it? Flag has a lot to say about war, the people who are affected by it, and the people surrounding it. Even so, it manages to do so with an amount of respect and doesn't come off as preachy. Even the HAVWC itself plays nicely into the show's themes, though I won't say exactly how.Do note, the pacing is pretty slow for the first half of the show. However, it's only thirteen episodes so you won't be waiting too long for things to pick up.Summing up, it's a great show that's a bit more obscure than it maybe should be. Oh, and it has a great OP. Give it a watch. http://ift.tt/1Rpqtks
