Top anime you should watch out for in 2016

Hello friends. It's the first time I'm making a post like this so if there are any improvements I can make feel free to let me know. First off I'm making this post because I'm very passionate about the anime that are coming out this year and want to spread awareness. I will be recommending series and movies that will be airing this year. To preface this list, I'm skipping most OVA's and sequels except for Under the Dog mainly because you need to watch the series for them to be relevant. If you guys want I can do another one of these posts with the sequels that I'm looking forward to this year. Without further ado here is my list.Winter 2016Boku dake ga Inai Machi (A town where only I am ERASED)Boku dake follows the story of Satoru, a man in his late 20's who is struggling to make it as a manga artist. Although his character is boring and lifeless on the surface, he has a hidden power, an ability which triggers a time leap reminiscent of The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. However unlike that movie, in Boku Dake, Satoru cannot use the ability on will. Instead the ability triggers when a tragedy is about to occur around him. This show is a psychological thriller which follows Satoru and his time leaps as he tries to solve a much bigger mystery by changing the past in little steps. The premise for this show is interesting however the real treat of this show is the production value. Not only is the music and sound direction great but the visuals are spectacular as well. They also don't feel forced like some other high budget shows and fit the theme of the show nicely. The voice actor for the main character was also meticulously chosen to fit the personality. In addition the directing for this show was great as the cliffhangers in each episode so far has left watchers in awe.Shouwa Genroku Rakugo ShinjuuThis show follows the story of Yotarou who is an ex-con that is recently released from prison. Yotarou becomes enamored with a traditional storyteller's skill in telling a famous story. Thus Yotarou becomes determined to become the storyteller's apprentice despite the fact that the storyteller has never taken an apprentice before.Overall the premise is fairly interesting however the show is heavily built on the dialogue as one can guess from a show which explores the world of traditional storytelling. The setting for this show is definitely a breath of fresh air as the traditional world is brought to life in subtle colors. Surprisingly the animation quality is quite decent from a Deen show and the writing is also great. So far this show is a must watch.Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! (Blessings to this wonderful world!)Another show set in a colorful vibrant MMO setting. However unlike predecessors this show takes a unique approach. Right from the start, the way the main protagonist, Kazuma, enters the MMO world is absurdly humorous. He is an otaku who goes out of his room for the first time in an year to buy a special release of a new MMO. When this happened my initial thought was that the main character would be putting on a helmet and be stuck collecting a harem while climbing the floors of a silly MMO. Fortunately the show took a different turn as Kazuma pushed a cute girl out of the way of an incoming vehicle and thus saving her life. Unfortunately for the Kazuma, the vehicle was a tractor but he still died while wetting himself from shock while his family laughed at his ridiculous death. His death meant that he had to go into an MMO for the chance of revival. The goddess Aqua gave him the choice of any powerful item and skill to take with him before he went into the game. Using his wits Kazuma decides to take the goddess Aqua herself and they become absorbed into the game world. This show is a fantastic comedy which explores a new angle of the MMO genre. With a rather unique line of characters and a beautiful setting this show has been a fan favorite for this season. Another surprisingly well animated show from Studio Deen as they show off their talents in the Winter Season.Sekkou BoysMiki Ishimoto is a recently graduated art student who had to struggle her way into the entertainment industry. She harbors a deep-rooted hatred towards sculptures due to having to draw them in high school, college placement tests and all throughout art school. After graduating she finally finds her true dream in the idol entertainment business where she is surprised that she will be a manager of an up and coming boy group. However to her shock, the idol group, Sekkou Boys, are a group of Greco-Roman busts.Another absurdly funny show with great dramatic irony. The humor is highlighted by the great voice acting of the four busts. This show is a short refreshing comedy which is a nice contrast to the more serious shows in Boku Dake, Dimension W and Shouwa Rakugo. Also the ending song is brilliant.Kanojo to Kanojo (She and her cat)A four part series created by Makoto Shinkai who is famous for works such as Garden of Words and 5 Centimeters per second. This series was previously a 5 minute short from the perspective of a cat. The short explored the feelings the cat harbored for its owner and was a short but beautiful story. Great animation and a touching story can be expected from this series by Shinkai.Spring 2016Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia)This is a Bones adaptation of a shounen action comedy manga that has garnered a fair bit of popularity. The main character, Izuku, is a young boy who possess no powers at all but still dreams of becoming a great hero. This drives him to join a famous hero academy in his hopes of actually becoming a hero.Bungou Stray DogsA supernatural mystery manga adaptation made once again by Bones. The protagonist Atsushi is kicked out of his orphanage and is close to starvation. He sees a man who is about to commit suicide and saves him. Afterwards Atsushi finds that this man, Osamu, is part of a detective agency which uses supernatural powers to solve cases too difficult for the police. This series gives the Kekkai Sensen sort of vibes.Sakamoto desu ga? (Don't you know that I'm Sakamoto?)Sakamoto is the coolest first year high school student in the world. Immediately upon entrance he attracts everyone's attention without doing a thing. No matter what situation befalls him, Sakamoto deals with the problem with grace and ease. This is another one of those very strange comedies. After seeing Studio Deen's work with KonoSuba, I'm very confident that they can pull this weird manga off with as much style as Sakamoto himself.Koutetsujou no Kabaneri (Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress)A show made by Wit Studio known for Attack on Titan, Owari no Seraph and Rolling girls. This show is reminiscent of Attack on Titan based on the preview. The colors are very dark and there seems to be a fortress or stronghold where people take refuge from monsters. The station and locomotive in the show seems to hold some significance in the show, giving off the steampunk vibes. This show seems interesting however there are concerns whether Wit Studio can create a comprehensible anime original series, considering their only anime original is Rolling Girls which struggled to find focus.Gyakuten Saiban (Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney)Based off the famous Capcom game series, this show follows the life of Phoenix Wright who is a new defense attorney. Much like the games, this series should be a comedic approach to the legal mystery series. Anyone who is a fan of the games should check this show out!Summer and Fall 2016RewriteBased off of another great Key visual novel. I haven't finished each route yet however I'm liking it as much as Little Busters. First off this series is held in the beautiful town of Kazamatsuri which has become overgrown with trees as a result of avid afforestation. Kotarou, the main protagonist, is a resident of Kazamatsuri and has the strange ability to "rewrite" his body to enhance his attributes. Naturally Kotarou is drawn to the supernatural and thus seeks out an Occult club. Mysterious like hyouka yet a great romance like Clannad.Kimi no Na wa (Your Name)Another beautiful Makoto Shinkai film with symbolic scenery. Seems like another romance drama film with two strangers. One is a young man who dreams of artistic architecture and the other is a rural high school girl who dreams of the city. They have dreams of one another on a certain day. Interesting premise gorgeous art style, I'm really excited.Girlish NumberAn anime original series by Wataru Watari, the man behind Oregairu. This anime follows the story of a young college girl who strives to be a voice actress. The writing for this show should be great and the character designs should be cute as well coming from the designer of Etotama.KiznavierA seemingly serious work from Studio Trigger. Trigger has given the community fantastic work such as Little Witch Academia and Kill la Kill so this show should have great potential. The series explores a world where the Kizuna system allows people to share their suffering and emotions with other people. This seems like a very interesting concept to explore. Of course the story is set in a high school though.Mob Psycho 100Another absurd premise created by ONE the man behind One Punch Man. Mob Psycho follows the story of Shigeo who possess very strong psychic abilities. However due to people seeing him as a freak he decides to suppress his psychic abilities. This show should be another fantastic action comedy adapted this time by Bones.New Game! This is a fairly under the radar show. However it is a slice of life comedy shows featuring cute girls. This genre is right up Doga Kobo's alley and should be interesting to see them create another feel good show with no story. Unfortunately for people looking for deep stories or awesome action, this show will probably not be for you. Nonetheless this show will be a good replacement until another season of Yuru Yuri or Himouto is released.Tegami Bachi (Letter Bee)Not entirely sure whether this is a remake, sequel or an alternative setting however this is another show to look out for. The premise of the series is that this loli who has lost everything in his life who becomes a letter deliverer. In this supernatural setting, a letter bee's purpose is to deliver the feelings of people in the form of letters.Edit: I was wrong Tegami Bachi is not getting a sequel or a remake apparently. Sources say that the creator is just providing character designs for a new show. Source.Under the DogThis is an OVA that was supported by a kickstarter fund back in 2014. It follows a story of an assassin who was hired to kill the people responsible for the terrorist attacks in the Tokyo Olympics. With a nice futuristic setting and beautiful animation, this should should be a great watch.Koe no Katachi (A Silent Voice)A Kyo-Ani adaptation of a fantastic manga series. The protagonist Shouya is a bored student and finds an interest in a disgusting habit. Bullying. When a deaf transfer student named Shouko joins his classroom he relentlessly bullies her day after day oblivious to the pain he causes her. One day Shouya finally understands the mistake he has made when Shouko leaves the school and in turn Shouya becomes shunned. In an ironic turn of events Shouya is now a loner in the third year of high school and meets Shouko again. The story follows his road to redemption.ReLIFEAn adaptation of the popular homonymous web comic. ReLIFE follows the life of Arata, a 27 year old unemployed man who takes a drug that changes his appearance to a 17 year old in exchange for becoming a test subject for an year. The series is a well paced romance slice of life with an interesting premise. http://ift.tt/1KIKWfk
